A few years ago I was pleased to find three mead recipes in a unique compilation of medical receipts dating from about 1444. The recipes from this manuscript cover a lot of breadth and so I did a formal write-up of the content, relating it to other mead recipes and recipe trends of the time.
The resulting paper "15th Century English Mead: Initial Review of Hydromel, Metheglin, and Melomel Recipes in Wellcome MS.MSL.136" explores the manuscript and its mead recipes.
